Phrases that seniors must avoid

Many of the managers who acquire higher positions attain the attitude of egoism very soon. They will start dominating on the employees who are under them. In most of the companies, the managers have the habit of humiliating, oppressing on the employees. They start ruling on their employees who work for them.

'Stop what you are doing and do this now':

Many managers in a company start dominating on the younger employees by ordering them assignments anytime they want. There may be situations, where even they are forced to take such a step. Many employees go through many emergencies and deadlines in their work. Sometimes they face situations where they get last minute deadlines which make them very stressful. There are managers who just reject the ideas and opinions that are given by employees as they just want to order their own thoughts above them. Sometimes they start asking the employees to leave all their work and start the work they give at that moment.

'I need only solutions not problems':

In an office, we see managers who just want everything to be completely perfect. They don’t like anything to go wrong at any situation. If at all any problem arises in the company they are least interested in giving solutions to those problems. Instead of suggesting their opinions they dump all the problems on the employees who work under them and ask them to find solutions immediately.

'You're lucky to have this job':

This is a really bad habit that most of the managers have. They start telling their employees those things which hurt them the most. Many of the managers start threatening their employees that they are very lucky to have their current job. They say it in a threatening attitude because to make the employees feel that they are under threat of losing the job at any moment if they do any mistakes. This may affect them in a really bad way as the start working under threat of losing the job. They fail to enjoy the work they do.

'You have to finish this and then only you can leave':

Many managers say that you must not leave the office until and unless you don't finish the given work and sometimes even they start threatening that if they disobey their given work they are much into trouble of loosing the job. This forces the employees to overwork even if they dislike.

'I am not bothered to whatever you just suggested':

This happens in many of the companies. The manager starts believing that what ever they tell that is final and the decision they take must be respected by everyone without any comments.

'Just do how much I have asked you to do':

This is very common in many companies. The egoistic managers do not carry the habit of encouraging their employees for their achievement. They just do not like the employees to grow up in their career. If an employee takes a good decision without the permission of the manager, the manager just rejects the overall decision that is taken by the employee even if the managers feels the idea is good. The only reason for them to reject the decision is that they were not approached by the employees when they took that decision.

Discussions to be avoided in Office

5 Things not to be shared in Office

8 hours a day and 5 days a week, office has become second home for most of us. In that context we also end up having best buddies at office. We are often so attached to office and office colleagues in our lives that we end up discussing almost everything under the sun with them. But how many of us have thought, what is healthy to share with them? Though there are your best trusted friends in office, there is always a line which needs to be drawn between you and your colleague.

Here are the things that you should avoid discussing with your formal colleagues

Salary
Most companies do not like their employees discussing their salaries. What you earn should always remain between you and your HR Manager. Also knowing each other's salary will only end up in doubts and discomforts about your company and work as you may feel that the company is biased or partial.

Workload
When you are burdened with loads of work, out of frustration you might burst out your problems to your colleague. But doing so might jeopardize your career. Constant cribbing
about the workload would only brand you as an inefficient worker and portrays you as a person who cannot work under pressure. Workload is something that you cannot avoid in a workplace. Be smart and finish the work as best as you can. It is all about planning.

Disagreements with your Boss
You hate your boss? Zip it up within yourself and never share it with your friends at office. You don't get along with your boss - so what? There are hundreds of employees in the world like you. You have various reasons for not getting along with your boss, but it might not be the same for your colleagues. In fact, they might have a very good rapport with your boss and they may be in his good books.

Biased views about other colleagues
In a workplace, everyone have some kind of disagreement or argument with someone or the other. In a way you end up not liking that person as well. But we still have to maintain a cordial relation and certain decorum in office. If you don't get along with certain colleagues avoid them but don't discuss their lives, wardrobe or professional abilities with others.

Discussing personal stuff
This is a very important rule in the black book. Discussing your breakups, difficult in-laws, are not information to be shared with colleagues over lunch or cried over their shoulders. Also speaking about boy/girl who interests you in office will show that you are not concentrating on your work and your focus is shifting. Knowing your personal stuff, your colleagues might make a fool out of you and also might take advantage of it at times. In an office environment, one is expected to share a professional relationship with all.

The above are certain topics that could rebound on you and negatively affect your career growth. It's human nature and we tend to do the above things under certain pressures and circumstances. But all we need to do is avoid falling for temptation.

Constructive Criticizm

The truth is we don't like criticism. But the greater truth is flawless performances are only those that are tempered by the cutting edge of criticism. As Sir Winston Churchill says, "Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things."

But if not done in an effective way, criticism may also harm the employees' morale. It may annoy them, instead of improving their work.

Criticize the behavior not the individual

Sandwiching means to deliver information that could be regarded as unpleasant between two positive notes in order to reduce the negative impact. Here, a manager can open a conversation offering a compliment on the project. After that he or she can switch to the critique using an appropriate transition like "however", "but" or "although", and at the end closing the conversation with an affirmation of an overall job well done. It shows the employee that he or she is valuable to the company.

Never compare with others while criticizing as it can hurt one's self-respect. It's very vital to state the feedback or the criticism without threatening the self-respect of the person

If the feedback is delivered through e-mail, or in a simple document left on an employee's desk, chances are there that it will be set aside or even deleted. Therefore, while giving a feedback or criticizing someone, the manager should make sure that the conversation is direct and two-way.

Office Manners

Check out the five manners below that can drive your co-workers against you.

1. I'm better than you: Many people believe that talking down to colleagues will give them a competitive edge over their counterparts. Every now and then, they want to prove them better than the others at any cost. But instead of making them stronger, this kind of attitude will make them an irritating fellow in their co-workers' eyes. The colleagues will go against them.

2. Constant ringing of phone: Always keep in mind, the desk with flimsy partitions in that corner, where you always use to sit is not your private province. So don't take personal calls, keep your personal life and gripes to yourself. If you need to talk to somebody for some personal reason, lunch hour is all yours.

3. Criticizing and being Sarcastic: When a colleague comes to your desk to ask something, don’t give him a 'you don't even know that' look on your face. Being sarcastic about your colleague's opinions or frowning may put you in his black list.

4. Nosing around in other's conversation: Want to irritate your colleague really bad? Make sure that whenever your co-worker is asked something, it's you who answer to it even before the person who was asked. Come on! If you really use to do so, stop doing that and mind your own business.

5. Complaint management system personified: There is nothing wrong about making complaints regarding any inconsistencies in office management. But in order to become proactive, if you go to your boss and list all your colleagues' names with their corresponding complaints every other day, it will build grudge in your colleagues mind against you.

Creating and maintaining a good relation with colleagues can help you in many ways. Always keep in mind; what is allowable and tolerable for you may be annoying for your colleagues. So take down the above sins and keep yourself away from practicing them at any cost.

Maintaing Healthy Relations with your Boss

Here is the list of simple things that you can avoid to have a healthy office environment
Arriving late and leavening early:
If you one of those who arrive late at the last second, but leave early or first at the end of the day, you're not certainly in your boss's good book. It'll only show your disinterest in your job which your boss doesn't like.

Abuse of sick leave:
You are sick and taking leave, that's fine. You are not sick, but you are taking leave telling that you are sick - a really annoying thing that your boss simply hates. As per recent studies, one out of three employees who calls in sick really isn't. About 32 percent of U.S. employees called in sick when they really weren't in 2009, as per CareerBuilder's annual absenteeism survey of 4,700 workers.

Intolerable cell phone behavior:
You are in a meeting and your cell phone rings again and again. It can be the major contributor to your boss's dislike towards you. Adding to it, receiving multiple phone calls at work is never appropriate. Bosses also hate employees peeping on their cell phones while at work.

Not communicating things properly:
Proper communication between the bosses and employees is the key to success for every organization. Employees should have good communicating skills otherwise chances are there for the boss to get irritated. If you are not able to complete your task within the deadline, rather than ignoring your bosses reminder mails communicate the reason why you are not able to meet the deadline.

Lousy table manners:
Bosses obviously develop a dislike to those employees who display poor table manners during a luncheon meeting with a client. Always be very careful while you are in a meeting as a lousy table can cause embarrassment in front of your clients.

Over eagerness:
Bosses don't like those employees who are overeager. Very often people think that by showing over eagerness they can attract their boss's attention and can impress them with their new ideas. But on the contrary it is likely to generate disliking in their boss's mind towards them.

Unreliable:
Employees who say one thing, but end up doing the other and those who cannot complete the assigned task and give excuses are certainly not in their boss's good book. Very often they create headaches for bosses.

Argumentative to the boss:
If you think you should argue for your right with your boss, think twice. This could be a good incentive for disliking you. Even arguing with your co-workers can also create trouble for you. Being argumentative is a big no-no.

Clumsy appearance:
Always maintain a good hygiene while coming to office. Dress up yourself properly. Bosses don't like those employees who don't maintain proper hygiene.

Talk about personal problems:
Bosses tend to hate employees talking endlessly about their person problems to them or even to the co-workers. Stop doing that or it will create disliking in your boss's mind towards you
